Truck accident leads to many injuries and 1 death
A vehicle crash involving a semi-truck can be particularly dangerous on California’s highways. This is because a semi is so huge and can easily damage nearby vehicles on the roadway, thus potentially causing serious or even fatal injuries. One fatal truck accident involving a semi and multiple vehicles recently took place in our state.
The incident occurred in the area of Highway 17 in Santa Clara County. The accident happened just before 8 a.m. on a recent Thursday when the brakes in a semi apparently failed and the truck jackknifed while going north on the highway. Many people were injured in the collision, with seven taken to the hospital; the condition of one them was deemed critical.
In addition, one person, said to be 25, died in the wreck after being thrown from his vehicle. The collision involved a total of 11 vehicles. Police continued to investigate what caused the crash. However, the accident was so severe that sections of the roadway will need repaving as a result of the collision.
The driver of the semi, along with the driver’s employer, might face personal injury claims filed by the injured individuals as well as a wrongful death suit filed by the family of the dead victim. If there is evidence that negligence on the part of the driver or the employer led to the injuries and/or death stemming from the accident, this can be used to try to establish liability in the wreck.
