Uber car involved in deadly wrong-way crash
The California Highway Patrol reports that officials were called to Highway 1 in Pacifica near the Paloma Avenue overpass for a fiery crash. The accident was first reported at 2:39 a.m. on Dec. 25.
According to the collision report, the driver of a Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 1. The vehicle crashed head on into a Nissan Maxima, which was being driven by an Uber worker and was transporting a passenger. Following the impact, the Corolla caught fire, and the driver died.
The Uber passenger suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident and also died. The driver of the Maxima suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. In an email to news reporters, a representative for Uber said that they are very disheartened by this tragic accident, and their prayers and thoughts are with the victims and their families.
The northbound lanes of Highway 1 were closed until about 7 a.m. during the CHP investigation. The CHP did not know at the time of reporting whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.
Not obeying traffic laws and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs are two of the most common causes of car accidents that result from negligence. It is often frustrating for the victims of these types of crashes and their families to deal with the aftermath. However, the victims and their families may file personal injury or wrongful death claims against the negligent drivers to recover some of the damages that they have suffered. They might seek legal counsel to represent them during this process.
